In between these sheets is a clear tough plastic layer usually called PVB (polyvinyl Butyral). Instead, they stick to the strong plastic layer in the middle. The glass cracks in a spider web pattern but stays mostly in its frame. This quick cooling process is called quenching. It creates strong tension (tightness) on the inside and heavy compression (squeezing) on the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u200bThe Strength<\/em><\/strong>: This process makes tempered glass up to four times stronger than normal glass of the same thickness. It can handle more impact and bigger changes in temperature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u200bThe Safety Trick:<\/em><\/strong> If tempered glass breaks it shatters into thousands of tiny, dull, pebble-like pieces. It does not create large sharp shards.
